Team IKO conquers Belgian Swings and has team around next season | Right away
Team IKO joined Bart Swings on Friday. The 29-year-old Belgian completes the ice skating team of coaches Erwin and Martin ten Hove for the upcoming season.
“The whole picture fits IKO. Erwin and Martin have a lot of knowledge and are open to working together,” says Swings, who has mostly trained individually in recent years, Schaatsen.nl.
“This is the ideal time for me to join a Dutch team. It’s a special step for me and I’m really looking forward to being part of a team.”
Allrounder Swings won Olympic silver at the 2018 mass start, becoming the first Olympic champion for Belgium since Bart Veldkamp in 1998. Earlier this year, he also became European champion in this part.
Earlier this month, the IKO team announced that Jan Blokhuijsen and Letitia de Jong have extended their contracts with the team, including Jorien ter Mors, Esmee Visser and Melissa Wijfje.
The new ice skating season usually starts in October, although the program will depend on the development of the Corona crisis.
