Suárez tests positive for Korona NOW just before the duel with Brazil and Barcelona

Luis Suárez tested positive for the corona virus on Monday. The star player from Uruguay will miss the World Cup qualifier against Brazil on Tuesday and probably also the competitive match between Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona next weekend.

In addition to Suárez, goalkeeper Rodrigo Múñoz and press spokesman Matías Faral have also tested positive for COVID-19, the Uruguayan association said in a brief statement on Monday. The country will play against Brazil for World Cup qualifiers in Montevideo on Tuesday evening (local time).

Brazil leads with nine points from three games in the South American qualifying pool for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Uruguay has six points and is fourth. The best four countries after eighteen games qualify directly for the World Cup.

On Friday, Suárez used a penalty for Uruguay that was too strong for Colombia 3-0.

Suárez probably not against old club Barcelona either

Due to his corona infection, Suárez will likely have to miss the duel with his old club FC Barcelona. The 33-year-old striker was classified as redundant by new coach Ronald Koeman last summer after six years at Camp Nou. Barcelona then let Suárez go to rivals Atlético without a transfer.

With five goals in six games in Suárez, the season at the club from Madrid started energetically. Atlético is the only club in Spain that has not yet lost and is third in La Liga. ‘Barça’ only occupies eighth place.

The top match between Atlético and Barcelona starts on Saturday at 9 p.m.
