Naser missed four doping tests and was already under investigation when she won World Championship gold | Right away
Salwa Eid Naser missed not three but a total of four doping controls. The 22-year-old Bahraini was also investigated when she became world champion in the 400 metres last October.
The Athletics Integrity Unit, the organization that fights doping on behalf of the world athletics federation, reported friday that Naser has been provisionally suspended for several failings.
An athlete can be suspended if he has missed three doping checks in 12 months and cannot make a proper statement.
Naser Stressed Friday on Instagram Live that she’s not a cheater. ‘And I’ll never be. I only missed three doping tests last year before the World Cup. That’s normal, it can happen to anyone. I have not been checked this year. Hopefully this will be resolved soon.”
The Athletics Integrity Unit Tweeted a response to Naser’s statements on Sunday. ‘The investigation into the errors surrounding Naser’s whereabouts was ongoing during the World Cup and she was not provisionally suspended at this time.’
“After the investigation was completed and another error was made with her whereabouts in January 2020, Naser received a notice of provisional suspension. The disciplinary procedure is not yet complete, so we cannot comment further.
Naser ran for the third time in Doha
Naser surprised at the World Championships in Doha last year with the World Championship title over 400 meters in the third ever. She finished in 48.14 seconds.
The Nigerian-born woman must fear losing her world title if found guilty in her disciplinary process. It could therefore be excluded from next year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo.
