The acquisition of Arjen Robben has a positive effect on the sale of season tickets at FC Groningen. The Eredivionist has already handed in 2,500 season tickets since the news that the 96-time national player is returning.
This brings the total number of season tickets to 10,950. Several boxes at Hitachi Capital Mobility Stadium are already sold out, fc Groningen announced in an update on Monday.
Immediately after the club announced on Saturday that Robben was under contract, there was a run on season tickets. As a result, the fc Groningen website was overloaded.
The 36-year-old Robben ended his glittering career at Bayern Munich last summer but returned to his decision to quit. FC Groningen is the club where the striker was trained and made his professional debut at the beginning of this century.
Robben is the second summer reinforcement for FC Groningen, who had previously attracted defender Wessel Dammers from Fortuna Sittard. His team-mate Mark Diemers also appeared to sign with the Pride of the North, but he eventually opted for Feyenoord.
