Manchester City climb to third place, Tottenham spill points against Fulham | NOW
Manchester City climbed to third place in the Premier League on Wednesday. Manager Josep Guardiola’s team were too strong 1-0 at home for Brighton & Hove Albion. Tottenham Hotspur stayed 1-1 at home against Fulham.
Phil Foden scored the only goal at the Etihad Stadium. The young Englishman outsmarted Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sánchez with a low shot just before the break.
City was unable to expand its margin in the second half. Bernardo Silva hit the post on behalf of the home team fifteen minutes after the break and Raheem Sterling missed a penalty in added time.
Nathan Aké went missing in City due to a muscle injury. In Brighton, Joël Veltman finished the ninety minutes and Davy Pröpper was replaced in the middle of the second half.
Thanks to the win, Manchester City are now four points behind leaders Manchester United, who won at Burnley (0-1) on Tuesday, and one point behind number two Liverpool. In addition, ‘The Citizens’ played one match less than the two title competitors.
Tottenham loses the lead against Fulham
Tottenham Hotspur missed the opportunity to finish third together alongside Manchester City. The team of coach José Mourinho gave a lead over the aviator Fulham at home: 1: 1.
With his eleventh goal of the season, Harry Kane broke the spell for Tottenham after 25 minutes. He hit a cross from left-back Sergio Reguilón behind Fulham’s goalkeeper Alphonse Aréola with a flying header.
Fulham, with Kenny Tete on the grid and Terence Kongolo on the bench, came with a header from Ivan Cavaleiro fifteen minutes from time. Tottenham still looked to win over Reguilón but his goal was rejected for offside.
