Lyon fears farewell to Memphis: “He wants to talk when he comes back” | Right away
Olympique Lyon fears Memphis Depay will leave next summer if the club does not play European football next season. The striker has a one-year contract, which gives him a strong negotiating position.
‘Memphis told me he wants to talk when he comes back to the club. His agent has already indicated that he is considering a farewell,” said Lyon’s president Jean-Michel Aulas Le Progrés.
Lyon and Memphis have been negotiating to extend the commitment for months, but there is still little progress on the issue. The national player of the Dutch national team has already submitted several offers.
‘I always do everything I can to keep players for Lyon. But players who want European football can of course always go. We can’t offer them this option,” Aulas says.
Lyon files two lawsuits
Lyon is currently tapping into a European ticket as the Ligue 1 season came to an early end due to the Corona crisis and the club finished seventh after 28 of the 38 rounds. The first six go to Europe.
“OL” does not let go and files two actions against the competition organiser LFP. The seven-time Dutch champion wants the season to end and the season to end differently.
Memphis has been with Lyon since January 2017. He has played 134 official games for the French, scored 53 goals and also provided 43 assists. The former PSV and Manchester United player is currently recovering from a serious knee injury.
