Karl Lagerfeld: Abused by his mother, dark revelations
On February 19, 2020, the fashion industry commemorated the first anniversary of Karl Lagerfeld’s death. The deceased couturier is still the subject of tributes… and revelations! Andre Leon Talley claims he was abused by his mother when he was a child.
These revelations, Andre Leon Talley makes in his memoirs, The Chiffon Trenches. The book, which is due to be published on 8 September 2020, contains a passage about Karl Lagerfeld. Andre Leon Talley met him in 1975. The two men had a fascination with 18th-century French fashion and a love of luxury in all their common forms. Andre Leon Talley and Karl Lagerfeld were so close that the late fashion designer told him about his childhood, which was marked by the abuse of his mother Elisabeth.
“The Creator [Karl Lagerfeld, NDLR] Confessed that his mother was taking extreme measures to correct his diet, and when he was 8 years old, she told him: “You look like an old woman ” (sic), reads the memoirs of Andre Leon Talley. She is also said to have told her son: “You look like me, but not so good.“
From “extreme measures“, and andre Leon Talley hears that Karl Lagerfeld’s mother tied him to his bed with leather straps to prevent him from going to her kitchen and eating in the middle of the night.
