FC Groningen does not continue with Joel Asoro. The Swansea City striker’s purchase option is not being defrauded. It was announced on Monday that Heracles Almelo defender Dario van den Buijs will return to Belgium.
The 21-year-old Asoro worked his way up to the base son at FC Groningen last season. The Swede made 23 official appearances, scoring four times and assisting twice.
According to the technical director Mark-Jan Fledderus, however, a longer stay was not in the room. “We wanted to hire him for an extra year, but that wasn’t an option at the moment,” he says Website the Groninger.
Asoro is the sixth player not to return to FC Groningen after the summer. Mike te Wierik, Django Warmerdam, Marco van Duin and the mercenaries Daishawn Redan and Ko Itakura will continue to play elsewhere next season.
Van den Buijs signs with Beerschot
The 24-year-old Van den Buijs signed for three years at Beerschot, which plays at the second highest level in Belgium. De Vlaming has been playing for Heracles since mid-2017, which saw him move away from Eindhoven. The left-back was only a regular in his second season in Almelo.
Last year, suspended by the coronary crisis in April, Van den Buijs was still captain in two of Heracles’ first three games, but he was mostly on the bench and did not get beyond 12 games in the Eredivisie.
In total, Van den Buijs played 57 official games for Heracles in three years. He scored two goals.
