Fernando Alonso returns to Formula One next season Bbc Tuesday. The Spaniard is said to have already signed a contract with Renault.
According to various media reports, Renault will announce the arrival of 38-year-old Alonso this week. That can happen as early as Wednesday.
A month and a half ago, Alonso hinted at a return to Formula One. “I’m still in good shape for at least two or three years and my ambition is sky high. I would love to be at the top of motorsport. This could be a return to Formula One, but also the WEC (long-distance race, ed.) or the IndyCar,” he said at the time.
The two-time Formula One world champion is expected to succeed Daniel Ricciardo, who will join McLaren next season. According to the Bbc Comment on the rumours.
Alonso retired from Formula One at the end of 2018, after which he concentrated on several other races. In January, he participated in the Dakar Rally. Previously, he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice (2018 and 2019) and also drove the Indy 500.
In 2005 and 2006, Alonso won his only two Formula One world titles. He began his career in 2001 in the top class of motorsport at Minardi before moving to Renault in 2003. He also played for Ferrari and McLaren.
